Already set for a massive expansion, the “Field of Dreams” movie site in Dyersville, Iowa, could get even bigger with the addition of a permanent baseball stadium.
Travel Dubuque and nonprofit organization This is Iowa Ballpark Inc. are reportedly raising funds to construct a $50 million, 3,000-seat ballpark on the site of MLB’s Field of Dreams game, which debuted last season with a contest between the White Sox and Yankees.
The new ballpark would have the ability to expand to 8,000 seats and would feature suites, team clubhouses, meeting rooms, restrooms, and a concessions area, according to the Des Moines Register.
The proposal comes on the heels of the $80 million plan announced in April by Go The Distance LLC to build nine baseball and softball diamonds, team dormitories, and a hotel near the site of the filming of the 1989 movie.
The classic film stars Kevin Costner and features a fictionalized version of legend “Shoeless Joe” Jackson.
In addition to future MLB Field of Dreams games — the Cubs and Reds are scheduled for Aug. 11 — the new stadium could host events year-round, including college and international tournaments, concerts, festivals, and corporate events.
