#NuggsForCarter Goes NASCAR

McDowell’s Chevrolet SS will feature WRL and K-Love as its primary sponsors, per usual with the supporting hashtag for the Food City 500 on Monday at 1 p.m.

Reno, Nevada high school student Carter Wilkerson struck Twitter gold in recent weeks. His fame has now made it into NASCAR.

Wilkerson began as a high schooler with about 150 followers, but after his tweet to Wendy’s asking for a year’s supply of nuggets he is a celebrity with over 92k followers.

Wilkerson asked how many retweets would be needed for a year’s supply of chicken nuggets, to which Wendy’s replied “18 million.” As of now, Wilkerson has 3.26 million retweets and has made an appearance on the Ellen Degeneres show.

This out-pour caught the attention of Concord, NC based NASCAR team Leavine Family Racing. LFR’s Michael McDowell will sport the #NuggsForCarter hashtag on the rear bumper — for free. Free sponsorship is not typically in NASCAR’s vocabulary, but McDowell and the № 95 team just wanted to help him out.

“It all started out just for fun. I just really wanted some chicken nuggets,” said Wilkerson. “Now, we’ve raised more than $100,000 for charity and it just keeps growing.”

The charity donation comes from Wendy’s promise to donate $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption if he surpassed 3.2 million retweets — he did.

Wilkerson is closing in on Ellen DeGeneres’s most retweeted tweet ever at 3.41 million; something they jokingly discussed could not happen.
