For the first time in company history, Dell EMC is partnering with NASCAR to sponsor JTG Daugherty Racing. Dell EMC’s mission in the partnership is to implement technology changes in the cars, at the track, and at home in the shop.

Mainly, Dell is using their Internet of Things, ‘IoT’ and client solutions to manage data, times and operations saved by the race teams for performances during practice and the race.

“A race engineer’s computer must be able to handle multiple tasks running simultaneously to support the race team,” the №37 car’s race engineer Brian Burns said. “It’s crucial that it is fast and reliable.”

NASCAR is more than just building a race car, loading it in the hauler and traveling from track to track. Hours of labor and data calculations go into the specific race car each week, and Dell’s solution makes that easier. In a 200 mile per hour world, every detail and tenth of a second is crucial to success. JTG Daugherty’s owner Tad Geschickter says that in NASCAR, large amounts of data are processed each day to come to conclusions and decipher solutions.

In the 2017 Monster Energy Cup, JTG has had a slow year through seven races, and adjusting as a two-car team. The №47 AJ Allmendinger sits at 25th in points, while teammate, №37 Chris Buescher sits at 27th in points. Allmendinger’s season best finish is 3rd in the Daytona 500, and Buescher’s best finish is 11th at Martinsville in the STP 500.

“The presence of technology is growing in sports, especially auto racing,” said Joyce Mullen, SVP and GM of IoT Solutions, “There’s no better proving ground than a race car to show what technology is capable of.” Dell wants to bring a ‘competitive edge’ to JTG Daugherty and then to the broad aspect of the sport, per PRN.

In basic terms, Dell EMC allows computations and data gatherings of everything between nearby weather patterns during race week, to down-to-the lap fuel mileage windows, speeds in practice and race days to tire durability. Information can be shared through the system via many of Dell’s rugged environment computer processors such as the Dell Edge Gateway 5000 Series, or the Dell Latitude Rugged 12 Tablet.

Dell EMC looks for immediate efficiency in their work with JTG Daugherty Racing, as well as the greater NASCAR team community. Dell EMC also looks to make their impact heard and stay around NASCAR in the years to come with their advancements.

The Monster Energy Cup Series is idle this weekend per Easter, but will resume on April 23rd from Bristol, Tennessee at Bristol Motor Speedway for the Food City 500 at 2 p.m.
