NFL Still Weighing Jed York Discipline After Prostitution Arrest

The 49ers owner pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in Ohio last month.

As the NFL considers potential discipline of 49ers owner Jed York under the personal conduct policy, a range of outcomes remains possible. Any action that might be taken by York or the team could mitigate the severity of any penalty imposed by the league, multiple sources tell Front Office Sports.

York was arrested last month and pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors in a prostitution-related case in Ohio. The NFL has said it is reviewing the case under the conduct policy.

Two sources with knowledge of the NFL’s inner workings told FOS they believe it’s likely—but not certain—the league will take disciplinary action against York. One of those sources said the resolution could come soon, without offering a more specific timetable.

The sources said they believe it’s possible that York and the team will take action to have York spend time away from his 49ers role. If that occurs, one of the sources told FOS, the NFL might impose a lesser penalty, perhaps a shorter suspension or a fine instead of a suspension.

Multiple NFL owners told FOS they either don’t know what the resolution to the case will be or don’t care to speculate about it.

York is not believed to have attended the 49ers’ Week 1 game in Australia. The team did not respond to a request for comment from FOS on that issue.

He was absent from the owners’ meeting in Atlanta last month. Al Guido, the franchise’s CEO, was the team’s primary representative in Atlanta. York had previously held the title of CEO until Guido was promoted in February.

The 2026 version of the personal conduct policy for league and non-player club employees reads: “Ownership and club or league management have traditionally been held to a higher standard and will be subject to more significant discipline when violations of the Policy occur.”

York, 46, took over the 49ers as CEO in 2008 and became the team’s principal owner when he acquired additional shares from his mother in 2024. The 49ers list his parents, Denise DeBartolo York and John York, as co-chairs.

The NFL and the 49ers did not respond to requests for comment in recent days on the status of the league’s disciplinary process and the team’s plans going forward.

York was not available to comment. A law firm that has represented him did not respond to a request for comment.
