Baseball America has been sold.

Not copies of its Top 100 Prospects list, mind you, but the publication itself. Baseball America has been sold to a new ownership group led by Alliance Baseball LLC, a group that also owns a pair of Minor League Baseball teams. A sale price was not immediately found.

With the purchase, Alliance Baseball looks to deepen the relationship between BA and its strong readership. Already the preferred and trusted publication for dedicated baseball fans, Alliance seeks to grow the already-established brand.

“We’re excited to take ownership of one of the great baseball media brands,” said Alliance CEO Gary Green. “No other outlet covers the sport so thoroughly and definitively as Baseball America. The talented staff gives readers everything they could want about the players they know and the ones they should. We can’t wait to help take the operation to the next level.”

Alliance Baseball owns and operates the Omaha Storm Chasers, the Triple-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, and the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the San Francisco Giants’ Double-A team. Green is also a principal owner of the Storm Chasers and a general partner of the Flying Squirrels.

Nothing looks different for Baseball America’s immediate future. Alliance has stated they intend to continue operating the publication from its headquarters in Durham, North Carolina.

Previously owned by TEN: The Enthusiast Network, the publication will be run by a baseball-first ownership group. TEN purchased Baseball America in 2011 but sought to sell after it decided to focus more on its automotive and action sports brands.

“As storied and respected as Baseball America is, we believe the brand is best served in the hands of endemic experts,” said Scott Dickey, CEO of TEN.

This is certainly good news for readers of BA, as the sale from an automotive media company to a baseball-centric ownership group should signal maintained success for the publication. Its signature issue, the Top Prospects issue, was published last week.
