Tiger, Rory Bring Indoor Team Golf to Women’s Game With WTGL

TGL, the indoor team golf league cofounded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is expanding into the women’s game.

Palm Beach Post

TGL, the indoor team golf league cofounded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, is expanding into the women’s game.

WTGL will launch later this year, with its inaugural season planned to take place over the winter of 2026–27—likely around the same time as Season 3 of the men’s league, which just began its second season Dec. 28.

The new women’s league is a partnership between the LPGA Tour and TGL parent company TMRW Sports, following the same structure as TGL, which is a partnership between the PGA Tour and TMRW.

WTGL will feature teams of LPGA players, but no information about who will compete or the makeup of teams was revealed Tuesday. TGL features six four-man teams, with three golfers competing in each 15-hole match. TGL teams are individually owned and are associated with various U.S. cities. A seventh expansion franchise in Detroit is coming in Season 3.

Bringing top women’s golfers into the TGL ecosystem has been something the league has explored since even before it launched.

Los Angeles Golf Club owner Alexis Ohanian tells Front Office Sports he is “very excited” about the addition of a women’s league. “When I invested in the league and bought the L.A. team, it was because I was anticipating a deal with the LPGA and a WTGL, so I’m excited it’s here,” Ohanian said in an email on Tuesday. Former LPGA star Michelle Wie West, an investor in LAGC, has previously told FOS she “would love” to see a women’s TGL league.

Ownership and Expansion

Other ownership groups beyond Ohanian are likely to be interested in also owning WTGL teams, sources tell FOS, which would make for easy branding and operational collaborations. But there’s no guarantee all seven current TGL ownership groups will want a WTGL team, and it’s possible WTGL will want to expand beyond the current team markets.

LPGA commissioner Craig Kessler, in a statement Tuesday, said WTGL “creates another global stage” for the tour’s players. Last year, Kessler told FOS that “any opportunity we have to elevate the sport and to give these incredible female athletes a platform is something we should take very seriously.”

WTGL matches will be played at the 1,500-seat SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., which is where all TGL matches are played. No broadcast partner was announced Tuesday. ESPN is in the second season of a two-year deal as TGL’s exclusive U.S. media-rights partner.
