Fox Sports Debuts Controversial Score Bug for Super Bowl LIX

Fox Sports debuted a new score bug for Super Bowl LIX and the reviews were mostly negative on social media.

Fox Sports took a big swing in unveiling a new score bug for Super Bowl LIX between the Chiefs and Eagles in New Orleans.

New graphics on sports telecasts always take some time to get used to, so it’s unsurprising that the new Fox score bug was panned on social media.

“Insane they would drop this scorebug on us in the Super Bowl. Nasty work,” star Barstool podcaster Dan “Big Cat” Katz tweeted.

Sports Illustrated college football writer Bryan Fischer quipped, “FOX’s strategy to have everybody criticize the scorebug instead of Tom Brady is so far paying off.”

Sports Media Watch founder Jon Lewis gave the new graphics a mixed review. “I’m a fan of minimalism in sports graphics, but I think the execution by FOX today leaves something to be desired,” Lewis tweeted. “Nonetheless, I hope this becomes a trend. I’m watching sports, I want to see as much as the field/court as possible.”

There was a smattering of positive reviews.

“I feel like I’m one of the few people who really like the score bug,” Fox 11 (Northeast Wisconsin) sports director Ryan Wing tweeted.

“Count me in as a fan of the new Fox score bug,” 106.7 the Fan (Washington D.C.) host Grant Paulsen wrote. “Odd time to break out a new bug but it’s clean and minimalist. I like it.”
