Star Premier League Striker Fined $100K, Suspended Two Games

Wolverhampton’s Matheus Cunha is among the leading scorers in the Premier League this year.

Matheus Cunha has been a revelation for Wolverhampton this year, scoring ten goals in just 19 games after scoring 12 all of last season.

Now Wolves will be without the Brazilian for two games as it fights to stay in the Premier League. The Brazilian forward was fined 80,000 pounds ($100,000) and suspended for two matches on Tuesday, after the Premier League reviewed an incident between Cunha and a security guard.

Earlier this month, Cunha and a security guard fought amid a large brawl after Ipswich beat his Wolverhampton squad. Video showed Cunha shoving the man and yanking his glasses off his face.

The game was a low point for Wolverhampton, which fired its manager after the loss. Cunha and the rest of his team have gone on a hot streak with new manager Vitor Pereira, beating Leicester and Manchester United and drawing Tottenham. Cunha scored in the first two games and Wolverhampton is now a single point clear of relegation.

He’ll miss one league game and one FA Cup match.

In a statement, the Premier League said Cunha admitted to misconduct and the punishment was levied by an independent board. His club faces insurgent Nottingham Forest on Monday.
