As Premier League profits soar to close to $1 billion, clubs are spending more than ever to attract the highest level of talent to their squads.
Highly effective midfielders come with premium price tags.
The highest-paid Premier League midfielder in 2024 is Casemiro. He earns $23.2 million per year playing for Manchester United. The Brazillian-born midfielder signed a 3-year deal worth $69.5 million in 2022.
Casemiro has enjoyed a fruitful career, mostly in Spain. He’s won the Champions League five times with Real Madrid.
Declan Rice comes in second with his $15.9 million salary. The London-born Rice now plays for Arsenal after signing a deal worth $79.4 million in the summer of 2023.
He’s played in his hometown throughout his entire career, starting his career with London club West Ham for eight years before the move across town to Arsenal.
Third on the list is Manchester City’s Rodri. He earns $14.6 million with the recently crowned Premier League champions.
Rodri spent the first five years of his career in his native Spain before the move to England. This season’s title was his fourth straight with Manchester City, a new Premier League record.
Two players are tied for fourth at $13.2 million a year.
Thomas Partey of Arsenal signed from Atletico Madrid in Spain in 2020. He’s been named Ghana Player of the Year four times.
Thiago Alcántara of Liverpool also earns $10.4 million for his services. He was named to the FIFA FIFPro World XI and the UEFA Team of the Year in 2020.
Experience pays well in the Premier League.
Casemiro’s $23.2 million salary is $8 million more than the next highest earner. He’s also played in the most matches of any players in the top five with 318.
