Making a lucrative career out of tennis with only four major tournaments to define the calendar year can be quite challenging. However, every grand slam tournament match matters as these tournaments boast prize money ranging from $44 million to $65 million. The difference between making the second and third round for some athletes could be life changing.

For someone like Novak Djokovic, he’s not hurting for cash but would certainly welcome more.

Djokovic is the highest-paid men’s tennis player, having earned $182.5 million over his 21-year pro career. He’s also won the most singles major championships with 24, including a record 10 Australian Open titles.

Djokovic holds 44 all-time records, with only 3 of those shared with other tennis greats such as Rod Laver.

Rafael Nadal is second with $134.9 million in career earnings. Along with Djokovic, he’s the only man to earn over $100 million on the court.

Nadal turned pro as a teenager in 2001 and quickly became one of the most successful teenage players ever. He won 16 titles and reached a ranking of number 2 before his 20th birthday.

He owns the record for most French Open titles with 14.

Djokovic and Nadal have earned more in career earnings than the other men’s tennis players among the top 10 highest-paid combined. Their 46 singles major championships are 28 more than the rest of the players on the list. Needless to say, the money and major titles are held tightly at the top.

As two of the sport’s best near the end of their careers, rising stars such as Carlos Alcaraz hope to take over the mantle.

The 21-year-old is already 7th among the highest-paid men’s tennis players with $31.58 million in career earnings. He earned his biggest payday at last year’s Wimbledon where he earned $3 million in his victory over Djokovic.

As tennis reached new heights in attendance at its biggest tournaments, Alcaraz should have plenty of opportunities to move higher on the list.
