The A’s are planning to meet with the Oakland-based African American Sports and Entertainment Group “in the next week” to discuss a potential sale of the club’s 50% stake in the Coliseum, a team spokesperson confirmed to Front Office Sports

The A’s bought their share of the Coliseum complex—the baseball stadium, the former Golden State Warriors home of Oakland Coliseum Arena, and the parking area in between the two—from Alameda County in 2019 with a price tag of $85 million (the payment itself has been a debacle). The city of Oakland owns the other half of the complex.

In September the AASEG offered to purchase the A’s share for $115 million, which the team rejected. The group sent a letter to the A’s earlier this month to renew the offer. The AASEG wants to serve the East Oakland community with a sports, entertainment, educational, and business district around the Coliseum, its website reads.

The A’s are looking to sell their portion of the complex immediately. They are also open to sharing the Coliseum pre–Las Vegas move with the Oakland Roots and Soul soccer teams, per the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The team hopes both moves will make the city more likely to approve a lease extension at the Coliseum, per the Review-Journal. The team’s current lease is up at the end of this season.

The AASEG has yet to respond to a FOS request for comment.
