John Jastremski, Sal Licata, and Jimmy Traina are joining a new sports media start-up, sources told Front Office Sports.
Traina said on social media that his new shows will launch in September. Further details of the start-up were not immediately available.
Jastremski and Licata are both former WFAN hosts. Jastremski departed the New York sports talk radio station for The Ringer in 2021 and hosted the New York, New York podcast there. He left the Bill Simmons-founded platform earlier this year and remains a contributor to SNY and betting site VSiN.
Licata began at WFAN as an intern in 2003. He was a producer for Mike and the Mad Dog and eventually Mike Francesa’s solo show. After a three-year period away from the station beginning in 2010, he returned as a fill-in host and ultimately rose to hosting middays with Brandon Tierney. The show was canceled late last year in a shakeup to make room for the return of Craig Carton, and Licata has been hosting an independent digital show since.
Traina announced Wednesday that he was leaving Sports Illustrated, where he hosted a sports media podcast and wrote a daily column. He spent over 20 years at the outlet, with a brief interlude writing for Fox Sports digital. During his first run at SI, he wrote the Hot Clicks column that was known in the industry as a traffic firehose for both SI and the blogs that he linked off to.
In his final SI podcast, Traina said he would be working with Licata in the future on a weekly audio and video show, as well as additional podcasts and “a little bit of writing.”
