After losing their superstar quarterback and starting running back this offseason, the Seahawks made strides to keep at least one pillar of their offense — and made history doing it.
On Friday, DK Metcalf agreed to a three-year, $72 million extension with Seattle that includes $58.2 million in guarantees and a $30 million signing bonus, per Adam Schefter.
The last figure is the largest signing bonus for a wide receiver in NFL history.
The impressive contract places the 24-year-old financially among the league’s elite receivers — and will allow him to hit free agency while still in his prime at 28.
- The contract ranks 10th in total value ($72M) despite the short length.
- It ranks sixth in AAV ($24M) and eighth in guaranteed money ($58.2M).
Metcalf is coming off a season that saw his yards (967) and receptions (75) drop off from his prolific 2020 campaign — but he did manage a career-high 12 touchdown catches.
The deal could revamp the wide receiver market as training camps get underway: Superstar 49ers pass-catcher Deebo Samuel still remains without a new contract after an offseason of intense negotiations.
