AUGUSTA, Ga.—Masters week did not get off to an ideal start for fans, as Monday’s practice round was suspended at 11:25 a.m. ET due to inclement weather, and the course remained closed for the remainder of the day.
When play stops at Augusta National Golf Club, spectators must leave the property and wait for updates. Just before 3 p.m. ET, the tournament announced that the course would not reopen.
The bright spot is that fans who paid $100 for Monday tickets will be sent refunds in May, and will be guaranteed the opportunity to purchase 2026 Monday practice round tickets.
Each summer, the Masters conducts a lottery for the opportunity to buy tickets for the next year’s tournament. Crowds of up to 40,000 people typically fill Augusta National each day, even during practice rounds. Any fans who bought tickets on the secondary market—which can charge thousands of dollars even for practice days—may not be as lucky trying to get a refund and tickets for next year, though.
Fans who made it inside the gates Monday morning were fairly lucky. On Sunday evening, Masters organizers announced that gates would not open as scheduled on Monday at 8 a.m. ET due to the forecast. However, early Monday morning, the club reversed course and decided to let fans in as the worst of the rain had not started yet.
The forecast for the rest of the week looks much clearer. Rain is only predicted to fall on Friday, with all other days expected to feature sunny skies.
