ATLANTA — NFL team owners did not discuss commissioner Roger Goodell’s pending contract extension during their meeting Wednesday but remain confident they will complete a deal with him in the coming months.
“That’s going to get done,” a source told Front Office Sports at the meeting, which was conducted at a hotel near the Atlanta airport. “I have no doubt.”
An owner told FOS afterward the topic was not discussed during the meeting.
“Nothing on that,” the owner said.
The owners’ next scheduled meeting comes in October in New York.
FOS reported last month the owners are confident they will reach an agreement with Goodell on an extension in the coming months. His current contract expires in March 2027, when he will be 68. The owners, who first elected Goodell commissioner in 2006, agreed to a three-year extension with him in October 2023.
Many owners feel it is important to keep Goodell in place for the upcoming negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Players Association, which could include an 18-game season and new broadcasting deals.
