Netflix is closing in on a deal to air the NFL Honors ceremony in 2027, sources told Front Office Sports.
Last year, the Super Bowl week event—which commemorates NFL awards winners such as MVP, Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year—aired on NBC and NFL Network. It had traditionally been simulcast by NFL Network and the Super Bowl rights partner each year. It is “likely” that Netflix would be the exclusive broadcaster this season for the event, a source said.
A spokesperson for Netflix declined to comment, and spokespeople for the NFL did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Netflix will hold its upfront presentation for prospective advertisers in New York on Wednesday.
Netflix’s sports strategy boils down to “eventizing” programming. For the past two seasons, it has streamed an NFL doubleheader slate on Christmas. Multiple reports indicate that the streaming service has acquired three additional NFL games for the 2026 season. The Athletic reported this will include a Week 1 game in Melbourne, Australia, and Puck reported it is expected to have a game on Thanksgiving Eve.
These new games are reportedly coming out of a package of five games the NFL reacquired in the NFL Network-ESPN deal. Fox and NBC/Peacock are also getting one new game apiece out of this package this season.
In addition to its NFL offerings, Netflix also has a pocket of MLB games, including Opening Day and the Home Run Derby. The streamer has also aired one-off combat events, including the highly anticipated boxing match between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez, as well as this weekend’s MMA card featuring Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano, promoted by Jake Paul.
