In his first season in MLS, Gareth Bale quickly established himself as one of the league’s most marketable players — and now has the jersey sales to prove it.
On Monday, MLS released its top-selling jerseys of the 2022 season, with the Welsh star striker topping the list. Bale’s LAFC teammate, Carlos Vela, took third on the list.
The second-best-selling jersey belonged to Christian Fuchs, who plays for expansion Charlotte FC. Charlotte’s inaugural jersey launch was the best-selling such event in MLSstore.com history.
In total, jersey sales on MLSstore.com were up 12% year-over-year from 2021.
Rounding out the top five were LA Galaxy’s Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez and Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez.
Although they didn’t have any players in the top five, the always-popular Seattle Sounders had four jerseys in the top 25 — the most of any team.
- Raúl Ruidíaz (6)
- Jordan Morris (9)
- Cristian Roldan (14)
- Nicolás Lodeiro (16)
Still, 2022 was a landmark year for team diversity, as a record 15 teams were represented in the top 25.
One of the only teams that didn’t have a representative in the top 25: the Philadelphia Union, who currently sit atop the Eastern Conference standings with an MLS-leading 63 points.
