Ken Rosenthal: I Apologized to Photog After Knocking Him Over

Trying to avoid getting soaked by a Gatorade shower, Rosenthal swiftly backpedaled straight into the photographer, knocking him over.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Longtime Fox Sports and The Athletic MLB reporter Ken Rosenthal says that he has apologized for an incident Saturday night in which he knocked over a Brewers photographer and glared at him while he was on the ground. Video of the interaction went viral over the weekend.

Rosenthal appeared on Foul Territory show on Monday and revealed that he spoke to Scott Paulus, a staff photographer for the Brewers whom he knocked down. The kerfuffle happened as Andruw Monasterio, a Milwaukee utility infielder, was getting doused with a Gatorade shower after a walk-off hit in extra innings sealed a win over the Cardinals and clinched a playoff berth for the Brewers.

Trying to avoid getting soaked, Rosenthal swiftly backpedaled straight into Paulus, and appeared to glare at the photographer while not offering him a hand up.

“The ever-observant A.J. Pierzynski joked afterwards that I looked like Muhammad Ali standing over Sonny Liston. Now, A.J., of course, is more experienced in these interactions than I am. I must admit, though: When I looked at the video, I was surprised at how upset I appeared. I was more confused than anything!” Rosenthal said on Foul Territory.

“Now, I had to continue the interview. We were live, folks, on national television. We couldn’t stop. That said, I feel awful about what happened. And afterward I went up to Scott, who I’ve worked with in pits before over the years, and I apologized—I apologized profusely! Because let’s face it—I don’t think you ever expect knocking someone down is going to happen in any particular situation.”

The Brewers have the best record in the National League. Nevertheless, Rosenthal would not be on-site to report on any of their games unless they make the World Series, as Fox is broadcasting the American League divisional and championship series, whereas the NL will be on TBS. The networks alternate between leagues every season.

“If I do see the Brewers in the World Series, I look forward to seeing Scott again in the photo pit—and I also look forward to sharing a good laugh with him about this,” Rosenthal said.
