Kansas’s 2024 football season will now require at least a half-hour commute for home games.

The school announced it would split its home games between Arrowhead Stadium, home to the Kansas City Chiefs, and Children’s Mercy Park, where the MLS’s Sporting Kansas City plays. The Jayhawks’ own stadium, David Booth Kansas Memorial, is undergoing a $448 million renovation.

Kansas will play home non-conference games against Lindenwood and UNLV at Children’s Mercy Park, roughly 26 miles from the Lawrence campus. The team’s four home Big 12 conference games against TCU (Sept. 28), Houston (Oct. 19), Iowa State (Nov. 9), and Colorado (Nov. 23) will be played at Arrowhead, roughly 46 miles away.

The Jayhawks, who finished with a losing record every season from 2009-2022, have started to rebound under head coach Lance Leipold: In 2023, his third season, Kansas went 9-4 and won the Guaranteed Rate Bowl over UNLV, the program’s first postseason win in 15 years.

Kansas will return to play home games at David Booth Kansas Memorial for the 2025 season, when renovations are expected to be completed.
