A Joe Montana jersey — worn during two of his Super Bowl wins with the San Francisco 49ers — just set a staggering new record for football jerseys sold through auction.

The jersey reportedly went for $1.212 million through auction marketplace Goldin. That’s more than twice the previous record held by a Tom Brady jersey that sold for $480,000.

Montana won four Super Bowls in his career, but the ones where he wore the auctioned jersey were Super Bowl XIX against the Miami Dolphins and Super Bowl XXIII against the Cincinnati Bengals. During the latter Super Bowl, Montana famously completed his 92-yard drive.

Montana’s jersey was one of several items Goldin had at an auction as part of a collection of Montana’s memorabilia. The ball for his last touchdown pass with the 49ers went for more than $40,000. Even his high school jersey went for a jaw-dropping $36,000.

The Hall-of-Famer’s collection earned almost four million in total.
