As soccer attracts multi-billion dollar investments from global brands and continues to hold its place as the world’s most popular sport, salaries continue to rise for the services of elite players.
Manuel Neuer is the highest-paid soccer goalkeeper of 2024. The 37-year-old makes $22.9 million as the captain and starting goalkeeper for Bayern Munich.
Neuer’s consistent play and dramatic saves propel him to the top of the list. His 222 career clean sheets and 11 individual awards are the most on the list.
Second to Neuer is Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak. He earns $22.7 million and is the only other goalkeeper to cross the $20 million mark.
Oblak signed his 5-year, $104.51 million deal in 2022 after he was named LaLiga’s Best Player in 2020-2021 after leading Atletico to a LaLiga title.
Third on the list is Gianluigi Donnarumma of PSG. He’s the youngest keeper in the top 10, earning $18.18 million playing in Ligue 1. The Italian keeper was the youngest ever to start for AC Milan when he started his first match at 16.
Real Madrid’s stalwart in goal, Thibaut Courtois, is the fourth highest-paid goalkeeper. Courtois earns $15 million a year. His contract includes a $700 million release clause. His 194 clean sheets are second on the list.
Coming in fifth is Edouard Mendy of Al-Ahli. Mendy signed a 3-year, $33 million deal last summer, netting him $11 million a season. He won the 2021 Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award.
PSG and Real Madrid feature two players each among the top 10 highest-paid goalkeepers.
Only four of the top 10 have more than 100 career clean sheets. Manuel Neuer is the only goalkeeper with over 200.
