The Premier League generates $8.5 billion selling its media rights, and leading clubs are selling tickets at record levels.
Goalkeepers’ roles as the last line of a soccer team’s defense are crucial.
The highest-paid Premier League goalkeepers command salaries that are on par with other players involved in more of the action.
At the top of the list are two keepers earning $10.5 million a year. Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa and Alisson Becker of Liverpool are the highest-paid Premier League goalkeepers.
Martinez has been with Aston Villa since 2022. He won the World Cup as the starting goalkeeper for Argentina that year and was named the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper as well.
Alisson signed a 3-year, $30.3 million contract in 2021. The longtime Brazil starting goalkeeper has won four individual awards in his career, including the 2019 Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper.
Fulham’s Bernd Leno is third on the list. He makes $8.7 million playing for the London club. The 31-year-old has earned over $63 million in his career playing in Germany first, then England.
Next up is Jordan Pickford in fourth with his $8.7 million salary. The starting keeper for both Everton and the England national team signed a new deal in 2023 worth over $25 million across three years.
At $8.4 million, Alphonse Areola, Andre Onana, and Aaron Ramsdale tie for the fifth spot on the list. Areola signed with West Ham in 2022 after playing for Fulham. He received a $4 million pay raise from what he was earning with the other London-based club.
Ramsdale plays for Southampton after leaving Arsenal last season as he lost his starting job to David Raya. He started his career in League Two with Chesterfield where he was only making $130,000 a year.
Onana has been the Manchester United keeper since 2023. He’s one of only two Premier League goalkeepers whose contract includes bonuses.
