Fox Sports Taps Jason Benetti for College Football

  • He will leave ESPN and Peacock, but will continue to call White Sox games with color commentator Steve Stone for NBC Sports Chicago.
  • Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt are projected to continue on as Fox’s lead college football broadcast team.
Chicago Tribune

A sports media rising star is stepping up to a major new role.

Jason Benetti — the play-by-play voice of NBC Sports Chicago’s White Sox broadcasts — will join Brock Huard at Fox Sports to be the network’s No. 2 college football broadcast team. The Chicago Sun-Times was the first to report Benetti’s talks with Fox.

Benetti will also reportedly call MLB and college basketball games for the network.

He currently calls college football on ESPN and baseball on Peacock’s MLB Sunday Leadoff package — both of which he will not return to. However, he will continue to call White Sox games with color commentator Steve Stone for NBC Sports Chicago.

Gus Johnson and Joel Klatt are projected to continue on as Fox’s lead college football broadcast team.

Benetti has raised his national profile in recent years — he was the lead play-by-play announcer during NBC’s baseball coverage for the 2020 Olympics. This new role will raise his profile even further.
