The terrifying situation involving Bills safety Damar Hamlin has yielded at least one positive result.
In the hours following Hamlin’s collapse on the field during Buffalo’s Monday Night Football game against Cincinnati, a GoFundMe for the Chasing M’s Foundation Community Toy Drive has raised over $4 million. The drive’s initial goal was to raise $2,500.
A recent update on the page explains that the drive was initially established as a toy drive for kids around Hamlin’s hometown in Western Pennsylvania — but due to the renewed support, the drive will benefit “Damar’s community initiatives and his current fight” and is emphasized that this is the only fund associated with the Hamlin family.
“Damar created The Chasing M’s Foundation to use as a vehicle to bring lasting impact to his community,” the page reads. “The foundation supports toy drives, back-to-school drives, kids camps, and more.”
In a statement made Tuesday on social media, the family said, “We want to express our sincere gratitude for the love and support shown to Damar during this challenging time. We are deeply moved by the prayers, kind words, and donations from fans around the country.”
Although the contributions are not verified, some of the most notable names on the donor list include wrestler Chris Jericho, Saints quarterback Andy Dalton, and 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey.
Chasing M’s Foundation is the apparent charitable arm of Hamlin’s Chasing Millions clothing and lifestyle brand. Most of the items on the company’s online store are currently sold out.
