Rose Zhang is among the LPGA stars that will have a busier-than-normal fall schedule competing in the final events of the tour’s 2026 season while also navigating the debut season of the WTGL indoor team women’s golf league modeled after the men’s version founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
“It’s going to be quite a jam-packed schedule,” Zhang told Front Office Sports. “I was looking at it the other day with my team and it’s just a lot of flying back and forth since I am on the West Coast. … But I’m excited.”
Zhang, a two-time LPGA winner, is a member of New York Golf Club, which will play in WTGL’s inaugural match on Nov. 8 against Los Angeles Golf Club. Her teammates include Lydia Ko, Danielle Kang, Linn Grant, and Yana Wilson. But she’s already eyeing a few more LPGA stars that she hopes will sign up for WTGL in Season 2.
“I think Nelly (Korda) would obviously be very good for the game,” Zhang said. “She’s a headline name, so it would obviously bring a lot of attention to WTGL.”
Korda, the No. 1-ranked women’s golfer and four-time major champion, has previously been critical of WTGL, saying it is a “huge and unbelievable miss that we’re not playing alongside the men.” The WTGL schedule will run through its championship match on Dec. 23. The third season of the men’s TGL league will begin Dec. 27. “If Season 1 goes well, then maybe she would be on board,” Zhang said of Korda.
There are five WTGL teams with five players each. Three players per team will compete in each match, all of which will be played in the 1,500-seat SoFi Center in South Florida—also the home to men’s TGL matches. Four teams will make the playoffs, which will include sudden death semifinal matches and a best-of-three championship series. ESPN and Ion will show WTGL broadcasts.
Mixed competition involving men’s and women’s golfers is not out of the question in future years, organizers have said, and Zhang, 23, would be supportive of the idea.
“There’s a lot of ways to be creative about it,” Zhang said, mentioning best ball, alternate shot, and even a modified alternate shot as interesting competition formats that could be used.
“With technology it would also be easier to combine the two genders just because you’re able to actually adjust distances pretty easily on screen,” she said. “So hopefully they get to be able to create some sort of format where we are all able to interact.”
