Major League Baseball has finalized details for its on-uniform advertising program.

Starting with the 2023 season, teams will be able to sell ad space on jerseys in the form of a 4-by-4-inch patch on jersey sleeves. Additionally, advertisers may be able to put corporate logo decals on batting helmets beginning with the 2022 postseason.

Alcohol, betting, and media companies will not be allowed to advertise with this program.

The inclusion of jersey and helmet sponsors was approved as part of the new collective bargaining agreement — but the full details of the program were only just made available.

On-uniform advertising could prove to be big business for MLB. The average jersey patch deal in the NBA sells for between $7 million and $10 million per year — and the Lakers’ deal with Bibigo is worth $25 million per year.
