LIV Golf Confusion Builds As Season Finale Details Still Scarce

The headaches continue to build for LIV Golf, as the league has still yet to announce official details of how its tumultuous 2026 season will conclude.

The headaches continue to build for LIV Golf, as the league has still yet to announce official details of how its tumultuous 2026 season will conclude.

LIV finally stopped selling tickets Thursday for LIV Golf Michigan, the team championship, which was set to pay out $40 million of prize money. The event still remains on the league’s official schedule, despite no indication of it taking place as planned Aug. 27-30 in suburban Detroit at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort. It is also still being promoted on the resort’s website. The Michigan tournament will be canceled, sources told Front Office Sports.

LIV members Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, and Adrian Meronk have entered the field for the DP World Tour’s British Masters, which is scheduled for the exact same dates as LIV Michigan. LIV players were informed by the league this week that Michigan would not be played, according to The Telegraph, but LIV has not confirmed that publicly. Fox Sports, LIV’s U.S. media rights holder, previously removed the Michigan event from its broadcast schedule.

Next week’s LIV Golf Indianapolis event is still set to be played as scheduled at The Club at Chatham Hills Aug. 20-23. That will become LIV’s 2026 season finale. One holdup with formally announcing the status of the Michigan event is likely ongoing efforts to incorporate elements of the team championship into the Indianapolis tournament, which was set to be a standard LIV event with a $30 million purse.

Not holding any team championship would be a violation of players’ contracts, one source told FOS, although it’s unclear what, if any, stipulations there are around prize money and location.

The league did not play its LIV Golf Louisiana event that was scheduled for June 25-28 in New Orleans, but in its official statement said it was postponing—not canceling—the tournament, making a “strategic decision to explore moving LIV Golf Louisiana to a new window” in the fall. LIV Golf Louisiana has not yet been rescheduled, and the state of Louisiana is still waiting on LIV to pay back $1.2 million the league previously received from the state as partial payment for a $5 million hosting fee.

The Saudi PIF is ending its funding of LIV after this season, and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan attended the final round of LIV Golf New York at Trump Bedminster on Sunday alongside U.S. President Donald Trump. BC Partners Credit head Ted Goldthorpe, whose firm is exploring a deal with LIV, was seen with LIV CEO Scott O’Neil at Bedminster Sunday. O’Neil announced last week that LIV had secured a new lead investor that will fund the league moving forward, but did not reveal the identity of the investor.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
