A disgruntled former NBA social media employee posted a disparaging message from the league’s official Facebook account on Monday that criticized the league’s treatment of its workers.

The post appeared Monday morning and was deleted after about 20 minutes.

“I haven’t worked here in weeks,” the post reads. “Anyway, the NBA overextends [its] social media employees greatly to the detriment of their health and social lives for a salary of less than $50k annually after taxes. I worked 14 hour shifts without breaks at times. Shoutout Adam Silver.”

In the post, the former employee also claimed they do not get health insurance from the NBA until 90 days on the job. “Glad I resigned, no need for a job to get in the way of your happiness. Donate to mental health causes,” reads the post.

The NBA implemented a hiring freeze in April amid budget-saving efforts from the league, and then laid off dozens of employees in July, per Sports Business Journal.

This year’s NBA regular season saw the league set new fan attendance records while postseason broadcasts reached its highest viewership average in five years. In 2022, the NBA surpassed $10 billion in annual revenue for the first time in league history.
