Donald Trump is not anticipated to join ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday, sources tell Front Office Sports.
When the White House confirmed Clay Travis’s report that the President planned to attend Saturday’s Tennessee vs. Texas game in Knoxville, many began to speculate about a potential appearance on the iconic pregame show. Trump is friends with Pat McAfee and Nick Saban, and GameDay has become increasingly political, with Senator Ted Cruz (R., Texas) appearing on Sept. 12 to stump for his Protect College Sports Act.
But sources told FOS Thursday they don’t anticipate the President appearing on GameDay before attending Volunteers–Longhorns. ESPN, however, does plan to show shots of the President in his luxury box, as it does with most VIPs who attend games.
ESPN declined comment.
Of course, the mercurial Trump could change his mind. Cruz previously suggested that the President sign the PCSA into law on live TV with a visit to GameDay.
On Thursday, Pat McAfee announced on his show that former Vols quarterback Peyton Manning will appear on his kicking contest. Johnny Knoxville was previously announced as GameDay’s celebrity picker.
