Animoca Brands to Acquire Majority of Darewise Entertainment

Blockchain gaming company Animoca Brands has entered an agreement to acquire 70% of game developer Darewise Entertainment.

Darewise, which purchased racing game developer Eden Games earlier this week, is currently developing play-and-earn MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) Life Beyond, which will be powered by Web3 and blockchain technologies.

The game will be free-to-play with a low barrier of entry.

“At the core, what we have been developing since the beginning was a great fit for decentralized technology because we want to run a real-money economy,” Darewise CEO Benjamin Charbit said.

Animoca Brands has a $5.4 billion valuation as of January, whereas Life Beyond is Darewise’s first game.

The company was started by former Ubisoft game director Benjamin Charbit — now Darewise CEO — and former Crytek technology lead Samuel Kahn.

Developers at Darewise have worked on games including Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed Unity, the Fable series, and Dying Lights 2.

This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.
