The Faces Behind FOS: Jay Stein

As the summer winds down, we decided to showcase the many faces behind FOS, what they do outside of the site and what their career aspirations are! Today you get to meet Director of Business Development, Jay Stein!

What is your current role/year in school outside of FOS?

I have been working as an Executive Recruiter for the past five years, all with Federal Consulting Resources, based out of the Washington, DC metro region.

What is your current role for FOS and how long have you been doing that?

Since April 2015, I have been working as the Director of Business Development with FOS, after originally joining the team as an interview contributor in January of this year.

What drew you to FOS in the beginning and why do you think it is important for students and young professionals to know that this resource is out there?

I was initially drawn to FOS due to my passion for sports, and since I had previously written for websites, I thought it would be a nice time to get back into it. I was already actively networking with as many sports professionals as possible, and I believed in the vision Adam, our founder, had laid out with FOS by sharing relevant information to those people who aspire to work in sports.

FOS gave me an outlet to share what I was already trying to learn on my own, while also allowing me the opportunity to continue to expand my network throughout the industry.

Favorite professional sports team? Favorite venue that you have been too?

Being born and raised in the DC area, my favorite team is and always will be the Washington Redskins. Picking a favorite venue is more difficult, but I would have to say the Georgia Dome, truly based on sentiment, as I had a chance to see my (future at the time) alma matter, University of Maryland Terrapins, win their first and only NCAA Basketball Championship in 2002.

Career aspirations and goals?

I have many career aspirations and goals that I envision myself accomplishing throughout my lifetime. I am currently focused on my work as an executive recruiter and business consultant. Through that experience, I aspire to utilize those skill sets I have gained and the network I have developed and maintained, to be in a position to support sports teams, leagues and business entities.

Words of wisdom?

Stay balanced; life is a cycle of obstacles, challenges, ups and downs, so don’t allow the low times get you too low, or the high times get you too high. Be humble!

By this time next year I see myself…..

…continuing my career as executive recruiter and business consultant, while also supporting FOS in it’s growth by developing partnerships with universities, sports organizations and business entities to enhance our reach to more students across the country and beyond!
