NWSL club NY/NJ Gotham FC has set a new franchise record for single-game ticket sales by selling over 10,000 tickets for its June 4 home match against the San Diego Wave.

It is the most tickets sold for an NWSL game at New Jersey’s Red Bull Arena, surpassing the 9,500 tickets sold for Sky Blue FC’s match against the OL Reign in 2019. Gotham FC expects to fill out the 11,000-seat bowl against the San Diego Wave, marking the first time in club history that Red Bull Arena’s upper bowl will be open.

In 2021, Sky Blue FC changed its name to Gotham FC and has since added NBA superstar Kevin Durant, former NFL quarterback Eli Manning, retired WNBA star Sue Bird, and former USWNT captain Carli Lloyd as investors and minority owners in the club. The investments valued Gotham FC at a reported $40 million in 2022.

The June 4 match against San Diego is also Pride Night at Red Bull Arena.

Gotham FC’s record-breaking ticket mark comes in the middle of its last-to-first turnaround after it finished last in the 2022 NWSL standings with just four wins. Gotham FC already surpassed last year’s win mark with a 5-1-2 record this season to currently rank first in the NWSL.

Next season will see the NWSL expand from 12 to 14 teams, with expansion clubs planned for the Bay Arena and Utah. FOS reported in April that the expansion fee for the Northern California club was $53 million.
