What Is the Most Watched Super Bowl of All Time?

The NFL is the most highly viewed sport in the U.S.—and the Super Bowl, often the most popular event on television, is its crown jewel.

According to Nielsen figures, since 2010, the Super Bowl has consistently garnered more than 100 million viewers, save 2019 and 2021. Super Bowl XLIV between the Colts and the Saints was the first to cross the 100 million viewer bar. New Orleans’s 31–17 upset of Indianapolis earned the franchise’s first Super Bowl title for the historically downtrodden organization.

The current record belongs to the 2025 event, Super Bowl LIX as Patrick Mahomes’s Kansas City Chiefs fell to the Philadelphia Eagles. The last four Super Bowls—from 2023 to 2026—all rank in the top four for viewership. But throughout the decade, Nielsen has tweaked how it tabulates viewership several times, making apples-to-apples comparisons difficult. Suffice it to say, however, the Super Bowl isn’t getting any less popular.
