The NFL is the most highly viewed sport in the U.S. — and the Super Bowl, often the most popular event on television, is its crown jewel.

Between 2010 and 2018, the Super Bowl consistently garnered more than 100 million viewers.

The current record belongs to the 2023 event, in Super Bowl LVII as Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs past the Philadelphia Eagles in the battle of the first-ever matchup between Black starting quarterbacks. It was Mahomes’ second Super Bowl title.

The Eagles and the Chiefs were predicted to set a new record, experts have told Front Office Sports. The experts were nearly right, as the Super Bowl fell just short of the record in the initial count.

Super Bowl XLIV between the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints became the first game to cross the 100 million viewer bar in 2010. The Saints’ 31-17 upset the Colts to earn the franchise’s first Super Bowl title for the historically downtrodden organization.
