Ticket prices for Game 1 of this year’s World Series between the Phillies and the Astros have gone through the roof compared with last year, despite the absence of some of the biggest-market teams.

On Wednesday, average ticket prices rose past $3,000 — the second-highest in MLB history, according to the Delaware News Journal. The 2016 World Series, which saw the Chicago Cubs break the Curse of the Billy Goat, was the highest on record.

  • As of 3 p.m. ET on Thursday, the get-in price for Game 1 at Minute Maid Park in Houston was $459, according to StubHub — and those are standing room only.
  • In order to actually sit down at the game, you’d have to pay at least $544.
  • Some of the fanciest seats were going for more than $14,000.

Fans are still willing to shell out despite the increasing prices. Total demand for the World Series has risen 50% in the past two days, according to StubHub data provided to Front Office Sports.

“Hype for this World Series matchup keeps building as we get closer to the first pitch in Houston,” StubHub spokesperson Adam Budelli said in a statement.
