Cameron Smith Reportedly Signing with LIV Golf for $100M

  • The 28-year-old has earned $27.2 million in 184 PGA Tour events.
  • Fellow Australian Marc Leishman could also be joining him at LIV Golf.

LIV Golf has scored arguably its biggest defection to date.

On Tuesday, Champion Golfer of the Year Cameron Smith reportedly accepted a $100 million offer to join the breakaway golf series, per The Telegraph.

The bombshell follows a radio hit from fellow Australian golfer Cameron Percy earlier in the day where he claimed that his countrymen Smith and Marc Leishman were both headed to LIV.

The reports on Leishman have not been verified yet.

When asked about the topic after his Open Championship victory last month, Smith was extremely non-committal and attempted to shrug it off.

At that time, reports suggested he could make up to $90 million for signing on the dotted line. He’s now easily exceeded that, according to the newest reports.

Including the $2.5 million he earned from the win at St. Andrews, the 28-year-old has earned $27.2 million in 184 PGA Tour events. He’s now almost quadrupled that without playing a single hole for LIV.

It’s a massive victory for the Saudi-backed venture given Smith’s age and current skill. Smith is the No. 2-ranked golfer in the world — trailing only Scottie Scheffler.

Smith is expected to tee off at LIV’s next event in Boston on Sept. 2.
