A current NFL player plans to help law students by sharing his experiences in the emerging world of NIL in college sports.
Bengals RB Trayveon Williams will team up with sports attorney and business consultant Alex Sinatra to co-teach a class at Texas A&M University School of Law beginning in Spring 2023.
The class will teach students about the “rules centered around NIL but also the real-world knowledge of how to be an athlete advocate to pro and college players,” per Sinatra.
Though he left TAMU in 2019 before NIL legislation took effect, Williams hopes to teach the next generation of sports lawyers how to guide student athletes through the wilds of NIL.
“Now that athletes can capitalize off their name, image, and likeness, from the law standpoint, there has to be someone that represents them,” he said in a conversation with Sinatra.
As an adjunct professor, Williams believes he is well-placed to help students navigate “the ins and outs of constructing contracts and doing all the little minute details within the middle of it. It’s extremely important.”
The Aggies football team made headlines in February by locking in the No. 1-ranked recruiting class of 2022 — amid allegations that the university had a separate fund for NIL to entice recruits.
