Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry became the fourth-ever NFL player to serve as an owner of an MLS team this week.
Henry, a two-time NFL rushing champion, became a minority owner of Nashville SC along with actor and producer Reese Witherspoon, a Nashville native, and her husband, Jim Toth, an investor and agent.
“My investment in Nashville SC is way more than financial, it’s truly an investment in the city of Nashville,” Henry said.
The news comes in a big week for the team — GEODIS Park opens for the first home match on May 1. At 30,000 seats, it’s the largest soccer-specific stadium in the U.S. and Canada.
GEODIS, a Nashville-based company, purchased naming rights to the $335 million stadium in March.
Henry joins NFL players Patrick Mahomes, Russell Wilson, and Mark Ingram as MLS club owners.
Mahomes holds a stake in Sporting KC, Wilson in the Seattle Sounders, and Ingram in DC United.
