Little League International Weighing Options For World Series

Little League is still weighing its options when it comes to the Little League International Tournament, which culminates in August with the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The organization is currently gathering feedback from its 600 volunteer district administrators on options for resuming play, which the organization is hopeful will be May 11.

“At this time, no decision has been made regarding delaying the start of the Little League International Tournament,” a Little League spokesperson said in an email to FOS. “It is our hope that Little League seasons can continue. Out of respect to the children who dream of making it to a World Series, and have had their lives completely upended in the past month, it would be irresponsible for us and media to make rash judgments, statements, and speculations on our World Series events at this time.”

Yesterday, sports business publication Sportico reported that Little League was telling its regional directors the World Series, scheduled for August 20-30, wouldn’t be held- but that U.S. teams would possibly play through regional tournaments.

A Little League spokesperson said the tweet was not accurate and provided false information.

The organization initially postponed action across the 6,500 programs in 84 countries it operates through April 6. The hiatus has been extended until at least May 11.

“Our focus is on the safety and well-being of all Little League families around the world, and the hopeful return to Little League play, including our Tournament event,” the spokesperson said.
