Career Fundamentals Pt. 1: Success through Service

There is a fundamental connection between the quality of your thoughts and the actions they produce.

The variables of the QQS Formula are essential for career success. Image via i0.wp.com.

In this first installment of Career Fundamentals, we will be covering the first tenet, or CF.1. It reads as follows:

CF.1: Make a deliberate decision to hold yourself accountable for your thoughts, actions, and service to those you work for.

While the scope of this article is dedicated to the service aspect of CF.1, the importance of your thoughts and actions as they relate to your personal and professional development are not to be overlooked. All achievement originates in thought. Thus, there is a fundamental connection between the quality of your thoughts, the actions they produce, and the accomplishments they will ultimately yield. Notice the trickle-down effect in the following:

Watch your thoughts; they become words.

Watch your words; they become actions.

Watch your actions; they become habits.

Watch your habits; they become character;

Watch your character; it becomes your destiny. — Lao Tzu

In his bestselling book, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill outlines a proven formula essential for maximizing one’s personal and professional potential. Widely regarded as the QQS Formula, its tenets are outlined below:

· Quality of Service: Perform every aspect of your job in the most efficient manner possible. Seek ways to constantly improve your performance as it relates to your position.

· Quantity of Service: If you seek maximum rewards, do more than minimal tasks. Seek opportunities to increase the number of services rendered at an optimal level.

· Spirit of Service: Embody servant-leadership through the ideals of positive energy and influence. Seek to contribute to a harmonious, agreeable work environment.

The common denominator in the QQS Formula is that of effort. Effort is required to improve the quality, quantity, and spirit of your service in a manner that transcends the status quo. Input determines output, so before you start plugging variables into your own QQS Formula, you must first decide exactly what you wish to accomplish in your career.

In short, you have the power to make your QQS produce SUCCESS!
