Inside Nike’s Annual Report

If you ever wanted a peek inside one of the biggest brands in sports, taking a look at Nike’s annual report and proxy statements are a great way to do just that.

If you don’t have time to do that, here are some key takeaways from Jeff Manning of The Oregonian/OregonLive.

$13.9 million…

That’s the amount of total compensation that Mark Parker, Nike’s CEO and president and board chair, was given during the company’s 2019 fiscal year.

For reference, the salary of a “median” Nike employee is $25,386, according to the company.

If you don’t want to do the math, Parker makes 550 times more than that. 

DTC, Digital and Wholesale…

While a DTC approach has become increasingly more important to Nike, the company still does a lion share of its sales to wholesalers. Below is a breakdown of the company’s sales via its DTC, digital and wholesale channels during its 2019 fiscal year.

Wholesale: $25.4 billion  

DTC: $11.7 billion 

Digital: $3.8 billion

Things are looking up…

With total revenue up more than 11% and earnings more than doubling over the prior year, the company looks to be back on track after a rough 2018.  As of Tuesday, the company’s total market capitalization has grown to $136.2 billion.
