ESPN Reimagines Emily Kaplan’s NHL TV Role

Emily Kaplan will migrate from the sidelines of ESPN’s NHL games to become a studio insider on the league.

Emily Kaplan’s role for ESPN’s NHL coverage will evolve this upcoming season.

Kaplan will largely migrate from being a sideline reporter to a studio insider, the network confirmed to Front Office Sports

While Kaplan will be onsite for big events including NHL opening night on Oct. 7, she will mostly occupy a role similar to league insiders Adam Schefter, Shams Charania, and Jeff Passan, where she will report and dissect news of the NHL for ESPN’s studio coverage.

“This season we are positioning Emily to be our primary NHL insider,” ESPN said in a statement to FOS. “She will appear more regularly across ESPN NHL studio coverage and news and information shows while continuing her in-game reporting for select marquee matchups, including our opening night game with the Florida Panthers raising their championship banner and hosting the Blackhawks.”

Kaplan joined ESPN as an NHL reporter in 2017 after previously covering the NFL for Sports Illustrated’s MMQB vertical.
