PGA Championship Week Begins With Complete Washout, No Fans on Day 1

The PGA Championship did not allow fans onto the grounds of Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte on Monday, with inclement weather disrupting the major’s first practice round.

For the second straight major championship, fans are getting rained out of the first practice round.

The PGA Championship, being played at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, announced early Monday morning that no spectators would be allowed on the property, due to the anticipated inclement weather approaching. The golf course and practice facilities initially remained open for players.

Rain was in the forecast for most of Monday. More rain could come Tuesday and Wednesday, but the forecast is much clearer for Thursday through Sunday, when the PGA Championship will be played.

Fans with Monday tickets will have the option to attend one of the other two practice rounds this week instead, on Tuesday or Wednesday. Monday tickets cost $76, as of late last week. Tuesday tickets are selling for $99 and Wednesday tickets for $122 on SeatGeek, which is the PGA of America’s official ticketing partner for the PGA Championship. The cheapest tournament round ticket is $237 on Thursday.

The complete washout on Day 1 of the PGA Championship comes one month after the Masters had to send fans home early on the Monday practice round of the first major of the year.

Augusta National Golf Club said that it would issue refunds to fans who paid $100 for Monday tickets, and they would also be guaranteed the opportunity to purchase 2026 Monday practice round tickets. Due to high demand, the Masters uses an annual ticket lottery system to select fans who can buy grounds passes out of the hundreds of thousands who apply.

The Masters, which does not use digital ticketing, cracked down on the secondary ticketing market in Augusta this year as the tournament played out. That won’t be the case in Charlotte, though, as the PGA Championship embraces ticket resales via its partnership with SeatGeek.
