PGA Tour Moves $20M Tournament Out of Los Angeles Due to Fires

The PGA Tour has become the latest sports league to alter an event because of the Los Angeles wildfires. The Genesis Invitational will be moved away from Riviera Country Club.

The PGA Tour will move next month’s Tiger Woods–hosted Genesis Invitational away from Riviera Country Club, due to the ongoing impact of the deadly Los Angeles wildfires.

Scheduled to be played Feb. 13–16 at the famous Los Angeles course that has hosted the PGA Tour event all but two years since 1973, the Genesis Invitational is one of eight “signature events” on the PGA Tour, and pays out a $20 million purse, compared to the standard $8 million to 9 million for non-signature events.

“Out of respect for the unfolding situation, we have determined that the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be played at an alternate location the week of February 10–16,” the PGA Tour said in a statement. A new course and additional tournament information will be provided in the coming days.

The PGA Tour did not say whether Riviera Country Club sustained any damage. The course is scheduled to host the men’s and women’s golf competitions at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open.

Woods, who grew up in Southern California, began hosting the tournament in 2020 via his TGR Live event company.

“It’s just sad,” Woods said of the fires Tuesday night after his debut match in TGL. “To see what has happened, I’ve known a couple people that have lost everything, so it’s just hard.” At the time, Woods said a decision on the tournament hadn’t yet been made.

The Genesis Invitational is the latest major sports event to be impacted by the fires.

The NFL moved Monday night’s Vikings-Rams wild-card playoff game from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles to State Farm Stadium in Phoenix. The NBA’s Lakers and Clippers, plus the NHL’s Kings, all had games postponed. Various professional athletes and coaches were forced to evacuate their homes.
