The same day LeBron and Bronny James made history as the first father and son to play together in the NBA, the pair became the subject of a lawsuit related to a 2022 car crash.

The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court by April Almanza Lopez and Kiara Rae McGillen, two women seeking unspecified damages related to medical expenses and car repairs. The suit says the crash happened on Nov. 13, 2022, on Pearblossom Highway in Littlerock, Calif.

It’s unclear from the complaint exactly what happened on the road that day, what injuries were sustained, or how bad damages were to the car. It does say the women have “employed and will employ in the future physicians, surgeons, and others for examination, treatment and care.”

The lawsuit also claims Lopez’s car was damaged in the crash and needed repairs.

The father and son played fewer than three minutes together Tuesday in the second quarter of the Lakers’ opening game of the NBA season. Before the game, they snapped a photo with Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr., the first father-son teammates in MLB history.

“That moment, us being at the scorer’s table together and checking in together, it’s a moment I’m never going to forget,” the elder James said.

Representatives for both sides did not immediately return requests for comment.
