1. Tell Us About Yourself and Your Current Role
I discovered my love for sports at a young age and I’m fortunate to work in a job I am passionate about. I received my Bachelor of Science in Marketing from California State University, San Marcos and am currently pursuing my Master of Science in Strategic Brand Communication from the University of Illinois. About three years ago, I started my career in sports interning for the San Diego Chargers. From the start of my career, I learned the importance of developing relationships and that has carried through to my current position at FOX Sports.
In my current role, I am responsible for many aspects of marketing and creative services for our network. From concept to execution, I work diligently on all marketing campaigns and communications to ensure all brand messaging is consistent with the goals of our team partners. In addition, I create all FOX Sports San Diego’s static graphics – digital/social media, print, ballpark signage, sales support, etc. Our goal with all content we release is to positively portray our team partners and I take pride in the collaborative work we produce. It is imperative in my position to have a great working relationship with our team partners to ensure this goal is consistently being met.
Additionally, I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Women in Sports and Events, Inc (WISE). WISE is the leading voice and resource for professional women in the sports and events industries. Being a part of this organization has been such a fulfilling and rewarding experience. I am passionate about the empowerment of women working in the competitive sports industry and WISE has been that outlet for many women across the nation.
2. Where do you see yourself in 15 years/dream job?
In 15 years, I hope to have gained the skills necessary to head a marketing team, whether on the team or media side. I have found my niche in branding and creative services and hope to continually grow in that direction. I aspire to take these next 15 years to absorb as much industry knowledge I can to someday to teach and mentor young professionals starting in their careers. Working in this industry is a dream in and of itself, and I am reminded of that every day.
3. Who is your mentor at this point?
Although I am early into my career, many people have had a lasting impact on my career. From professors to coworkers, to my family, I owe much of my success to the people around me.
One person that has continually mentored me in and out of the office is Jennifer Bower- current Director of Partnerships for FOX Sports College Properties (SDSU) and former Senior Manager, Client Services for the San Diego Chargers.
Jen was the first person to take a chance and hire me as a gameday intern. From launching my career with the Chargers to settling into my current role at FOX, Jen has always been a supportive voice during times of transition. She is someone who has consistently pushed me in the direction that is in the best interest for my future. I hope to take everything I have learned from her and apply it as I grow in this industry.
4. What’s one thing you’ve learned early in your career that you didn’t know until you started working in the industry?
We work in an exciting industry that is faced with new challenges and opportunities every day. One thing I learned early in my career, although our job is rewarding, you are held to a different standard, as many people will personally connect to your work. Every day I am reminded that my work is seen by many viewers, so it is imperative to be proud and confident of everything produced. Although this leads to more responsibility, it makes my job that much more fulfilling.
5. What does winning the Rising 25 Award mean to you?
I am simply overwhelmed to have been selected as a member of the Front Office Sports Rising 25 Class of 2018. To be able to say I am a part of this esteemed group of young professionals from some of the world’s largest sports entities is nothing short of a dream. I have taken this time to cherish and reflect on every step of my career thus far. Thank you to my family and mentors for ongoing support and the industry leaders for honoring my accomplishments. I love my career choice and cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me.
