Bad Bunny’s agency did bad—or so baseball’s powerful players union says, according to a new report.
William Arroyo, the main baseball agent for Rimas Sports, the agency led by the Puerto Rican star, had his MLB Players Association certification revoked after a union investigation over improper benefits provided to players, according to ESPN.
The MLBPA informed Arroyo’s clients, which include Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez, Nationals outfielder Eddie Rosario, and Reds infielder Santiago Espinal, among others, on Friday.
“At Rimas Sports, we uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity of our industry,” the company said in a statement issued to ESPN. “Out of respect for an ongoing process within the context of the MLBPA Agent Regulations, we will refrain from making any comments at this time. We remain committed to continue serving our clients with excellence.”
The agency officially launched in April 2023 and within the first week, the MLBPA received evidence that Rimas offered players cash and gifts to switch agencies, ESPN reported—a violation of rules specifically prohibiting agents from luring clients from rivals with money or “any other thing of value.”
Bad Bunny launched the agency alongside his manager Noah Assad, who founded the independent record label Rimas Entertainment. Hall of Fame catcher Iván Rodríguez, a native of Puerto Rico, was brought in as an ambassador for the agency.
It is unknown whether Arroyo or Rimas Sports will appeal the decision.
