PWHL Attendance Records, NHL Trade Deadline and Post-Olympic Bounce

Front Office Sports editorial director of features Meredith Turits breaks down the post-Olympic bounce for both women’s and men’s hockey and what it means for the business of the sport going forward.

The PWHL is having one of its biggest weeks ever. The Seattle Torrent just set the all-time attendance record for a women’s hockey game with more than 17,000 fans, the Boston Fleet sold out TD Garden, and the New York Sirens sold out Madison Square Garden.

For the NHL the story is different but still encouraging. Post-Olympic viewership on TNT is tracking close to pre-break averages, but the more interesting number is the 172,000 new viewers who had never watched NHL on TNT before the break. Meanwhile the trade deadline is approaching fast and the names on the move are surprising.
