Skechers has signed a lifetime deal with star striker Harry Kane to mark the sneaker brand’s entry into the soccer sponsorships market. Kane recently joined Germany’s Bayern Munich after playing more than a decade with Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.
The English national team captain’s move to Bayern Munich reportedly cost the German club $110 million, the most expensive transfer in Bundesliga history. Kane’s deal with Skechers will see him wear SKX_01 during matches, which is the first soccer boot from Skechers. Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga season kicks off today with a match against Werder Bremen.
Skechers will sell its SKX_01 soccer boot starting in September across Europe and the UK, with Kane set to appear in marketing campaigns to promote the shoe. The shoe will be sold online and in select retail store locations.
In July, Skechers announced second-quarter sales of $2.01 billion, a year-over-year increase of 7.7% for the global footwear brand. The company’s stock on the NYSE is up 20% so far this year.
Kane, 30, has a business portfolio including his investments in soccer training and entertainment startup TOCA Football and at-home fitness company OxeFit. He is the all-time leading goals scorer for the English men’s national team and currently ranks second on the Premier League’s all-time list for goals scored at 213.
