Rare Michael Jordan Card Sells For Over $1 Million

  • An MJ rookie card sold with auction house Christie’s for $1.008 million.
  • It’s the most expensive card sold from the 1986-87 Fleer Jordan set.
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

On this date in 1998, Michael Jordan scored 45 points and nailed a game-winning jumper with five seconds left to win his sixth NBA title.

These moments are why the GOAT’s memorabilia sells for record prices.

On Tuesday, an MJ rookie card sold with auction house Christie’s for $1.008 million — the most expensive card sold from the 1986-87 Fleer Jordan set.

Fleer (purchased by Upper Deck in 2005) re-released 23 autographed rookie Jordan cards and packaged them into boxes in 2006-07 to celebrate the 20th anniversary.

This specific card was numbered 21 out of 23 with a Beckett grade of 8.5 — only 14 of the 23 cards are known to be graded. Reports indicate that the other nine still might be in unopened boxes — one box which sold for $5,000 in April.

If you have anything Jordan-related, then you’re in luck.

In October, a pair of Nike Air Ships that Jordan wore in his rookie season sold for $1.5 million — the most expensive game-worn sneakers ever.
