Brock Purdy, 49ers Agree to Deal With $181 Million Guaranteed

Purdy’s new deal is near the top of the QB market, but doesn’t reset it.

Brock Purdy has gone from one of the NFL’s lowest-paid players to a nine-figure contract.

The 49ers and their franchise quarterback have agreed to a five-year deal with $181 million guaranteed, worth up to $265 million, according to multiple reports.

Purdy’s stunning rise from the last pick in the 2022 draft to reliable starter in the Bay set up one of the biggest questions of the NFL offseason: How much would the 49ers pay him, and when would they do it?

Purdy is set to make $165 million guaranteed over the next three years. That’s right near the top of the QB market, but doesn’t reset it.

Dak Prescott still leads QBs in average annual value (AAV) at $60 million.

The new deal trails Josh Allen and others in guaranteed cash. Allen, Prescott, Joe Burrow, and a handful of others have all received contracts that guaranteed them $200 million or more.

There was a moment in Purdy’s stunning rise when it appeared that he would receive a game-changing extension. In his rookie season, he led the 49ers to the NFC title game before suffering a devastating arm injury against the Eagles. After undergoing Tommy John-style elbow surgery, rare for a quarterback, Purdy lit the league on fire in his second season. He finished fourth in MVP voting and had the Niners on the brink of winning a Super Bowl after the 2023 season before their dreams were dashed by Patrick Mahomes in overtime.

The 2024 49ers came back down to earth, but Purdy escaped the blame as San Francisco dealt with injury after injury and an aging defense. Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch purged veterans from the ’24 team this offseason in preparation for Purdy’s huge raise.

Purdy had been playing on a seventh-round, rookie scale contract, earning just $2.8 million total for his first three seasons in the league. He was set to become a free agent after the 2025 season.

Now, his new deal ties him to the red and gold through 2030.
